Follow these steps to make this recipe!
Ingredients
For the Sushi Rice:
2 cups sushi rice (short-grain rice)
2 ½ cups water
¼ cup rice vinegar
1 tablespoon sugar
½ teaspoon salt
For the Fillings (Choose Your Favorite):
1 cucumber (cut into thin strips)
1 avocado (sliced)
200g cooked crab, salmon, or tuna (optional)
1 carrot (julienned)
4–6 sheets of nori (seaweed)
For Serving:
Soy sauce
Pickled ginger
Wasabi
Before We Start
Wash the sushi rice 3–4 times until the water runs clear.
Use a very sharp knife to cut the sushi rolls cleanly.
Keep a bowl of water nearby to wet your hands, preventing the rice from sticking.
Instructions
Cook the Sushi Rice
Step 1: Take 2 cups of sushi rice (short-grain rice) and rinse under cold water 2–3 times.
Step 2: Take a pot, add rinsed rice, 2 ½ cups of water, and 1 tbsp of any oil. Bring it to a boil over low heat for 15 minutes (without cover).
Step 3: Turn off the flame, let the rice sit, cover it, and give it 10 more minutes.
Step 4: Take a small bowl, mix rice vinegar, sugar, and salt. Stir until dissolved.
Step 5: In the cooked rice, add the vinegar mixture and gently mix it. Let it cool at room temperature.
Prepare the Filling
Step 6: Grab a sharp knife. Wash the cucumber first, then cut it into thin strips. Take the carrot, avocado, and any other fillings, and do the same—cut into thin strips.
Step 7: If using seafood, make sure it is properly cooked or sushi-grade if raw.
Assemble the Sushi Rolls
Step 8: Take a sheet of nori and lay it down (shiny side down) over a clean surface or bamboo sushi mat. Wet your hands with water and spread a thin layer of sushi rice over the nori, leaving a 1-inch margin at the top edge.
Step 9: Near the bottom edge of the rice, start arranging your chosen fillings in a line. Lift the bottom edge of the sushi mat and gently roll it over the fillings, pressing tightly.
Step 10: Continue rolling until you reach the end, then seal the edge with water.
Slice and Done
Step 11: Use a sharp knife to cut the rolls into bite-sized pieces (wipe the knife with a damp cloth or tissue paper between cuts).
Prepare them on plates and serve immediately with pickles and sauce!
Serve
Cut the sushi rolls into bite-sized slices and set them on a plate. Place a small bowl of soy sauce in the center along with chopsticks.
