An Apple Pie Recipe

What if you have an apple pie recipe with the same taste as grandma’s hand?

Ingredients

For the crust:

  • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour (or whole wheat flour)

  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, cold and cubed (or margarine/coconut oil)

  • ½ teaspoon salt

  • 1 tablespoon sugar

  • 6–8 tablespoons ice water

For the filling:

  • 6 cups sliced apples (Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, or any firm apples)

  • ¾ cup sugar (or honey/maple syrup)

  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon

  • ¼ teaspoon nutmeg (optional)

  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour (or cornstarch)

  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice (or vinegar)

  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)

Before We Start

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

  • Grease a 9-inch pie dish or use parchment paper.

  • Chill the dough for at least 30 minutes for a flakier crust.

Instructions

Make the Crust

Step 1: Take a large bowl, add 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour, 1 tbsp sugar, and ½ tsp salt (or to taste).
Step 2: Add cold butter and mix ingredients by your hands until crumbly.
Step 3: Use ice water (one tbsp at a time) until the dough sticks together.
Step 4: When it sticks, divide the dough into two portions and wrap in plastic (or only cover properly) and rest it in the fridge or refrigerator for 30 minutes.

Prepare the Filling

Step 5: Peel the apples if desired and do slices (mostly peel the apple and cut slices), sugar, nutmeg, flour, lemon juice, and vanilla. Mix them all in another bowl.
Step 6: Let it sit for 10 minutes as the apple releases its water (juice!).

Assemble the Pie

Step 7: (Time to roll the dough which is waiting for us to take that out.) Now, only roll out one of the dough on a floured surface and fit it into a pie dish.
Step 8: Now, in the crust (a rolled dough fitted into the dish, remember), pour the whole bowl of apple filling into the dish.
Step 9: After filling, roll out the other dough and place it on top (or make a lattice design over the top with the crust while rolling). After covering, simply crust a rolled dough over the top, seal the edges, and cut slits (steam passageway) for steam to escape.

Bake

Step 10: After all the parts of baking, brush the crust with milk or an egg for a golden color (it gives taste too).
Step 11: Bake for 45-50 minutes until golden brown.

Let it cool after done, make slices of the pie, and serve!

Serve

An apple pie with taste must look with appearance too, so for that:

  • Trays – Serve the pie on it.

  • Drinks – Chai tea latte.

  • Side Dish – Caramel sauce or whipped cream.

  • For Extra – Lining napkin or a table runner cloth with it.

Bake it for 45-50 minutes until golden brown.

When it’s done, let it cool before slicing and serve it!
